A B O U T M E
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I was lucky to be exposed to theater from an early age. From the moment I saw my very first curtain draw, I knew that I belonged on the stage with the blinding spotlight on me, and not in the audience.
There are roles that I find fun to play, and then there are roles I find necessary to play. One of my dream roles is “Nina” from In the Heights. When people look at me, they might see a Caucasian girl. Surprise! I’m Hispanic. My mother is from Caracas, Venezuela and moved to the United States for graduate school, where she met my dad. The first time I watched a production of In the Heights, I felt a strong connection to Nina’s character. She cares deeply about the people in her life. Often, caring more about others than herself. I have always been a person who looks out for people. Over the last few years, I've learned that a crucial part of being a kind person is being kind to oneself. I resonate with Nina in that she is simultaneously soft, kind and thoughtful, yet she stands up for what she believes in and won't let anybody tell her otherwise.
I've always known that I wanted to be a performer, but I learned later on that I wanted to be a story teller. When I have the ability to tell stories like Nina's I feel proud that I have the opportunity to educate audience's on cultural differences and lives. I hope as I grow older and make a place for myself in the industry, I can also carve a path for young actors like me who want to find their voice through storytelling.
